When I ask for information, I often receive a deck of good looking PowerPoint slides.Of course we need good presentations, but I wonder if we spend too much time on internal presentations. I sense a creeping loss of substance.
When we internally discuss complex problems, the focus should not be on selling but rather on finding the best solution for the whole of Ericsson, not the individual unit or function. To do that, we need to lay out all issues, whether they are positive or negative. Then we can analyze the situation well-groundedin facts.
Where dowe start? Well, let’s stop presenting to each other. Instead of simplifyingcomplex matters into nice PowerPoint charts, let’s try to start using crisp, short text documents based on full sentences. No, I am not saying that we should stop using PowerPoint, but let’s cut down their use.
Our culture should also enable high ceilings in our discussions, again based on facts and not individual biases or opinions.
Thank youfor all your emails. Please continue feeding back ideas. I will try to address them in these letters.
