InterfaceSpecification for the BTS Low Cost Architecture team, which is headed up byMark Kanne. Version 1.0 of the CPRI Interface Specification (spec) was releasedon 9/30/03, and can be obtained at the CPRI website listed below. Note thatoriginally there was some concern over whether Motorola employees coulddownload the CPRI spec, but in an E-mail from Ralph Kamin on 10/14/03 he statedit was okay to download it. ThisCPRI spec summary write-up consists of the 4 sections listed below. Thefirst 3 sections are based upon information from the 54-page CPRI spec. Thelast section discusses how the CPRI spec relates to Motorola’s current CDMASuperCell BTS architecture, for comparison purposes.

The CPRI spec defines a digitized radio Base Station(BS) internal interface specification between the Radio Equipment Control (REC)and Radio Equipment (RE), as shown in Figure 1. Note that Iub refers to theinterface between the Radio Network Controller (RNC) and UMTS radio BS (NodeB), while Uu refers to the UMTS air interface.
