PHICH duration has two options: normal and extended, the difference is that normal duration used only 1 OFDM symbol, while extended duration will use 2 or 3 OFDM symbols. Extended duration is useful for smaller channel bandwidth, such as 1.4MHz, in which case there is only 6 PRBs in total, frequency diversity is lower than that of larger bandwidth such as 20M, so time diversity can be explored to improve the PHICH performance.
PHICH resource have several options: 1/6, 1/2, 1, 2, this parameter together with channel bandwidth determines the maximum number of PHICH groups. Since PHICH is used for HARQ feedback of UL transmission, so the PHICH resources needed depends on the number of UEs which have active UL services (or simply the number of active UEs). PHICH resource also limits the available number of PDCCH CCEs, so actual setting of this parameters is a balancing consideration.

这在PCFICH的CFI只是PDCCH占用的符号数目有没有什么关系,求交流!
"用来表示PHICH持续多少个OFDM符号..."是指"通常PHICH在第一个OFDM symbol中发送,但也可以配置PHICH在多个OFDM symbol中发送(这就是所谓的‘持续多少个OFDM符号’),具体参见36.211的Table 6.9.3-1。而为什么会有这种配置,可以参见《4G LTE/LTE-Advanced for Mobile Broadband》的10.4.2 Physical Hybrid-ARQ Indicator Channel"
“这在PCFICH的CFI只是PDCCH占用的符号数目有没有什么关系?”。有关系!例如在normal CP,Non-MBSFN子帧且非TDD下的特殊子帧,也就是正常的子帧的场景下,如果PHICH_duration为extended,查表36.211的Table 6.9.3-1可知,此时PHICH占3个OFDM symbol。由于该配置是通过MIB配置的,即使小区级的配置,也就是说,控制区域的所占的OFDM symbol的大小至少得为3,即PCFICH的CFI至少为3。
当下行系统带宽大于10RB时,如果配置了extended PHICH duration,则认为CFI固定等于PHICH duration。(在36.213的9.1.3节中有说明),此时UE可以忽略PCFICH的值。由于CFI的值是每个TTI下发的,也就是说,不同的TTI可以有不同的CFI配置,但上述的extended PHICH配置就会导致动态的CFI配置失效。
